Sloped roofs: the page says nothing more
The City's sloped roof procedure fits in one sentence for Anjou. You do not need a permit to repair, maintain, renovate or replace a sloped roof. No material is named, allowed or banned. No colour is imposed.
Switching from asphalt shingles to standing seam, ribbed panels or steel shingles falls under no published exception. The product is chosen between you and us, based on the look you want, the pitch and the budget.
Flat and low-slope roofs: three choices only
According to the City, a roof with a pitch under 2:12 is a flat or low-slope roof. For these roofs, the Anjou page speaks of the "only" coverings allowed.
- a white material, painted white or covered with a reflective coating or white gravel
- a material with an SRI of at least 78, certified by the manufacturer's specifications
- a green roof
Standing seam on a low slope must fit one of the first two boxes. A factory-painted white sheet does. A grey, black or red sheet only does if the manufacturer data sheet shows an SRI of 78 or more.
Anjou has one detail of its own. The SRI must be certified by the manufacturer's specifications. The page does not mention a professional's opinion as an alternative proof. We keep the metal's data sheet with your quote.
Each metal profile has a minimum pitch set by its manufacturer. On a low slope, we check that the chosen profile is allowed before giving you a price.
What having no permit does not settle
Nobody checks the job for you. A few points rest on you and on us.
The licence. In Quebec, a construction contractor must hold a licence from the Régie du bâtiment du Québec. The register of licence holders is public. We hold this licence. Check our number in the register before you sign.
Insurance. We carry civil liability insurance. Ask us for proof of coverage. Tell your home insurer about the work as well.
The paper trail. Without a permit, no file is opened at the borough. Our detailed written quote, the invoice and the metal's data sheet become the only proof of the product installed and the date of the work. Keep them with your house papers. Our warranties are given in writing.
Condominiums. No file is filed in Anjou for a condo either. Talk to the syndicate about the work before you sign.
The Anjou permit counter
The Anjou permit counter, 7171 rue Bombardier, receives by appointment only. It is still useful if you want to confirm that your building is subject to no special standard before you change the look of the roof.
