Montreal roofs are not all alike
A triplex on the Plateau and a bungalow in Pierrefonds do not have the same roof or the same problems. Plexes have flat roofs: a membrane, a drain in the middle, parapets all around. In neighbourhoods of single-family houses, the roof is sloped and covered with asphalt shingles.
For the City of Montreal, a roof with a pitch below 2:12, or 16.7%, is a flat or low-slope roof. The rules change with it. When a flat roof is redone, several boroughs require white roofing, a reflective material or a green roof, and most require a permit to replace the roofing.
These rules vary from one borough to the next. Our guides explain what to check with your borough before you sign.
Before you sign, with us or anyone else
Check the licence
In Quebec, a construction contractor must hold a licence from the Régie du bâtiment du Québec. Ask us for our number and check it in the public register.
Ask for a written quote
Ours describes the materials, the area, what is removed and what is kept.
Get the warranties in writing
The manufacturer's warranty on materials and our warranty on workmanship are two separate things. Ask for both in writing.
Ask about the permit
Who applies for it, and when.
